In this session, you will learn about maritime piracy and armed robbery against ships, from its historical development to its impact on modern international shipping. You will identify piracy-prone areas, understand pirate tactics, targets, vessels, and equipment, and recognize the factors that make a ship vulnerable to attack.
You will also study the recommended Best Management Practices, including voyage planning, defensive measures, ship protection measures, anti-piracy checklists, IMO MSC circulars, and proper reporting procedures. Through case studies, you will assess real piracy situations and determine the correct actions to take before, during, and after transiting high-risk areas.
